Hey families,
My name is Marnie, and im 33, I have over 18 years of experience in teaching, childcare and nannying and find these roles both professionally rewarding as well as consistent with my personal values. In addition, I have a Bachelor of Education (Primary), Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care, and a Certificate 3 in Children's Services.
Over the past three and a half years, I have been a classroom teacher at a primary school in Brighton East and Casual Relief Teaching. My role as a teacher has encompassed various aspects of children’s academic, social, and emotional growth. Being a teacher is incredibly rewarding. Not only do you see students’ growth and progress academically, but you can build connections, make a meaningful difference and leave a long-lasting impact on these students lives. I have a deep understanding of child development, learning styles, and age-appropriate activities. This knowledge allowed to create engaging and educational experiences for children in my care. I have experience in managing various classrooms and working with diverse groups of students hones my ability to handle different behaviours and adapt to individual needs, ensuring a safe and nurturing environment for the children I care for.
But there is one thing I truly miss, caring for children in their home. Being that person in a household who is spreading kindness, care, and support. Before becoming a primary school teacher, I was a nanny. I have worked for several families within Australia and internationally (USA and Canada). My responsibilities included caring for newborn twins, and older children, following routines (including sleep patterns, feeding, and bathing), assisting with household cleaning, driving children to and from after-school activities, assisting with homework, and maintaining close communication with parents.
Whilst I was studying my Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care, where I was successful in gaining a scholarship through Swinburne University of Technology, to go to Vietnam. During this visit, I was volunteering in Hanoi, teaching English to prep aged children. It was a fantastic experience and extended my childcare experience, as well as providing learning experiences in another culture, and participating in their usual day-to-day life activities. Prior to this experience, I was a nanny in America. This position involved living-in with a family in New Jersey, USA where I cared for their two children (girls now aged 4 and 8). Living full-time in the family house meant that it was important that my approach and behaviours aligned with the rules and principles of the family.
I've also taken on additional roles working with children, such as a Ski Instructor at Mt Buller Ski Resort and an Assistant Educator at Explorer’s Early Learning Centre. These positions showcase my proficiency and professionalism in the field.
I have a mature, responsible, and professional way of caring for children and I pride myself on creating a positive, happy environment in which children can thrive.
